Trip to Yale University’s Hume American Furniture Study Center

April 5, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm

On Wednesday, April 5th the Colonial Dames will have the opportunity to enjoy a tour of the Hume American Furniture Study Center located in the Collections Study Center at Yale’s West Campus, 900 West Campus Drive, West Haven, CT.

Our tour guides will be John Stuart Gordon and Patricia E. Kane, curators of American Decorative Arts at the Yale University Art Gallery. The tour is open to 18 Dames so please don’t wait too long to make a reservation.

We will gather at the Center in West Haven at 10:45 a.m. (the tour begins at 11 a.m.), and following the tour we are invited to Lisa Totman’s house for lunch. Lisa’s address is 44 Laurel Rd., Hamden CT; her phone numbers are 203-777-
8393 (h.) and 203-671-4547 (c.).

The Hume Furniture Study Center is a working library of over 1,300 examples of furniture, clocks, and wooden objects, which were made in America or for the American market from the 17th century to the present. The collection is particularly strong in colonial and Federal furniture which should be of special interest to the Dames.

Carpooling is encouraged, and parking is plentiful at the Yale West Campus. If carpooling is an option, Claire can perhaps tell you who from your area is planning to come. Reservations should be made by calling Claire at 610-299-6444 or by email at [email protected].
